Benchmade Skirmish Modification
Lets talk about the Benchmade Skirmish and his little brother the Mini-Skirmish :
Both of these knives are great and would be almost perfect except for one thing. There is a problem with the thumb hole on these knives.
Specifically, the thumb hole has been chamfered. This reduces the ability of your thumb to catch the edge of the thumb hole and easily open the knife. That is, the chamfer tends to cause your thumb to slip off of the hole. To overcome this slippage the user is forced to increase thumb pressure on the opening hole in order to deploy the knife's blade.
Depending on the user this can be considered anywhere from a minor to a catastrophic flaw. For me it is somewhere in between. The good news is this problem is easily fixed.
All you need is some super glue, a hole punch, and a piece of tread stair tape.
Use the hole punch and punch out a nice and round piece of the tread stair tape. Next you will use your thick super glue or epoxy and cement the piece along the top edge of the thumb hole. This piece of tape will keep your thumb from slipping off of the thumb hole without you having to apply any excess pressure in order to open the knife.
As can be seen in the pictures below the tape is hardly noticeable.
